Project background

Qingdao, a city bathed in the sea breeze, opens up the history and humanities of the city and dreams of a future city. With the new strategic orientation of "South Shenzhen and North Qingdao" put forward, Qingdao West Coast New District is gradually growing. Based on this, a future exhibition center integrating the concepts of ocean and future came into being.

Design conception

The project is located in the north of Century Avenue, west of Binhai Avenue and south of Fenghe River in West Coast New District of Qingdao. Inspired by the natural coastline, ocean currents and oceans, the whole building is designed with Qingdao flowers as elements to put window grilles on the building, and a brand-new artistic aesthetics is released by reshaping the facade, landscape and space.

Facade disassembly

The future exhibition center takes the triangle as the design basis, creating a stable geometric shape and a central symmetrical layout structure system. The planes of the second floor and the third floor move back and forth and "float" in the air, adding a sense of future and technology to the building. Looking at the whole building from a distance, its facade is like a huge hanging stone, which stands at the tide head, and changes like waves through the curve rhythm combination of the outer skin modules, which echoes the geographical conditions of the nearby ocean and perfectly fits with the overall design concept.

The main facade of the project should be the glass facade system that is bright in horizontal direction and hiding in vertical direction, and the plate should be the tempered ultra clear glass with three pieces of flat glass and two layers of air cavities + interlayer streamer aluminum plate. And, the whole building is the curved arc shape, which is fitted by breaking lines.

The ceiling positions of the first floor and the second floor inside are assembled by aluminum honeycomb boards with a thickness of 25mm. The seams are closely assembled and installed, the large surface size of the plate is controlled at 1500x3100, the column spacing is 1500, and the beam length is set. The overall landing effect is good, the flatness is in line with the expectations, and the quality is perfect.

The design of outer window facade is one of the core points of the project. The design inspiration comes from Camellia, the city flower of Qingdao, which is arranged regularly in shape and creates the outline of petals through rhythmic curves. From a distance, it is more like waves and tides, showing fine exterior decoration effect. Meanwhile, the glass facade and the double-layer facade design of wave-shaped window grilles coexist harmoniously, which emphasizes the floating feeling and enriches the overall facade level.

In order not to affect the surface effect and also stabilize the structure, when selecting the connection methods, through the comparison of multiple schemes, finally the window grilles are spliced by mortise and tenon, and the main structural mode is a connection mode combining concave and convex parts on two components. The raw material of window grilles is the flat aluminum, which is extruded into petals by equipment, and carved on 40mm thick aluminum plate substrate by high-precision carving machine. The wall thickness is 8mm and 5mm, the petal depth is 40mm and 20mm, and the maximum plate size is 3000x1500mm, in order to achieve the best visual effect.

As night falls, the lights start. The conceptual lighting design with the theme of "Flowers on the Sea, Curving Waves Chasing Light" lights up the whole building surface around the ocean elements, creating a feeling of slow flow and sparkling light, and showing more elegant demeanor!

Epilogue

With urban renewal iteration and regional gradual growth, in addition to the growth of various economic indexes, the shaping of brand-new buildings is often a more intuitive expression. Qingdao Ocean Vitality Zone Future Exhibition Center is rooted in the hot land of West Coast New District, with the name of ocean, blooming flowing light, reshaping the facade with the language of the new era, and adding beauty to the city awning!
